In San Luis Pass, Texas, a Galveston County a family and their van was stuck front end first in deep water hole. The front passenger tire was just over the edge of a deeper section. A friend was at the location in another vehicle and spotted this family and van. He did not have a winch on his truck and called me because the winch extraction was the best option for the situation. The video highlights the angle, slope and condition of the van. Due to it being in the water and angle, we chose to connect a tow strap around the control arm. Assessing the control arms are important because not all control arms are the same strength. We only wanted to use a winch for a slow, steady and consistent pull. We positioned the Jeep Gladiator on an angle and connected to the rear driver side to counter the front passenger tire in the deeper section of the hole. Being a front wheel drive, we had the driver keep it in reverse as we pulled the vehicle out.
@SharkbaitnSandcrab (YouTube) was first on scene and contacted me since I was in the area and due to my vehicle having the winch. Please visit his YouTube channel. He has hundreds of recoveries and he has shared some of those on his channel. Both of us belong to a group in Galveston County called GCOR (Galveston County Off-Road Recovery).
Since the van remained running when we were there, we had the family keep it running but inspected the engine once we recovered the vehicle to a safer position.
Communication with the driver is key with any type of recovery. Having the driver understand our signals and verbal commands was also important.
We have pulled out multiple vehicles in similar situations that also became stuck in these water holes. If you must drive through water, walk out and probe the area with a pole to understand the current depth and conditions. It is highly advised to avoid all water holes if possible. Too many unknown hazards which cannot be seen may exist. Please visit other John's Jeep Garage Off-Road Recovery videos on our channel. • HOW DEEP IS THAT WATER HOLE
All Off-Road Recovery must be performed by experienced individuals. SAFETY is the priority. The methods, tools, connection points and condition of equipment must be understood to minimize damage to vehicles and safety of others. During extraction, people should remain clear of the tow vehicle and recovery vehicle.
For this video, we are part of volunteer recovery groups supporting the Texas coast and Galveston County. SAFETY is critical. Maintaining recovery equipment properly, knowing the risks and operating in a safe manner is vital. See our other video on Rescue & Recovery basics including standard tools we use.
Please use caution and understand the risks when off-roading, during recoveries and working on your vehicle. Use a professional service provider when necessary. Subscribe to our Channel for more Jeep modifications and maintenance tips.
