"How Firm a Foundation" first appeared in John Rippon's 'A Selection of Hymns' in 1787. It is there attributed simply to "K—". Many possible authors have been suggested but the most likely seems to have been Robert Keen (or Keene) who was precentor at and the Carter Lane Baptist Church in London when John Rippon was the pastor.
The tune is 'Foundation' an anonymous tune which first appeared in Joseph Funk's 'A Compilation of Genuine Church Music' in 1832 as a setting for this text (though there it was called 'Protection').
This performance is by The Tabernacle Choir at Temple Square.
