Jasmine's story - It started with a breath

It started with a sigh - Jasmine finds her voice. - Stuart Saxon and Kat Cavill.
I heard Jasmine's story when I visited National Star last year, and was blown away by it. I also witnessed on the faces of the people around how big an impact Jasmine's life had, had on them.
I confess I did a bit of arm twisting to persuade Kat and Stuart to share Jasmine's story here, but I feel as if doing so is the next ripple of impact that her life will have had. I'm very grateful to Jasmine's family for sharing their insight with us, and their daughter. I am confident that this presentation is going to be one of the highlights of this whole event. Enjoy.

Stuart Saxton is the Specialist Input Manager at National Star, managing a team of professionals who are knowledgeable, trained and excel in the fields of vision impairment and autism. In 2015, he became part of the first cohort of Intensive Interaction practitioners to undertake the Intensive Interaction Good Practice course and from there grew his passion for this method of interacting and communicating with students; so much so, that in 2016 he started the Intensive Interaction Coordinator course and in 2017 qualified as a coordinator. He now trains and mentors staff in the practice of Intensive Interaction at National Star and provides 1-1 timetabled sessions with those who need it.
Katherine Cavill is a Personalised Learning Coordinator Tutor at National Star in Cheltenham and a qualified Intensive Interaction Practitioner. Katherine, who has worked at National Star for 14 years, is passionate about inclusion and founded Star LitFest which coincides with National Sensory Story Telling Day. Now in its fourth year, the event brings together a range of sensory story telling experiences for all students. It also helps to share the understanding and knowledge of sensory stories. She is a contributor to Joanna Grace’s new book Sensory Stories to Support Additional Needs: Making Narratives Accessible Through the Senses.
