A recent report presented in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly has revealed that over the past two and a half years, the state government paid approximately ₹2.34 crore to the newspaper 'National Herald'. However, a deeper look into the 29-page report shows a higher figure of ₹9.79 crore being mentioned in total payments.
Interestingly, detailed breakups are available for only ₹39.90 lakh, leaving the remaining amount unexplained in public records. The newspaper, which is under an ongoing ED investigation related to financial irregularities, has received this sum during a time when the state is already facing economic constraints.
This brings to light important questions - whether the payments were made following proper procedure, and how the government prioritizes its expenditures during times of financial stress.
