My first ever content video for this channel! This short tutorial teaches you how to effectively develop a relaxed and good sounding swing feel, which is crucial for playing Jazz and Blues. Examples are played using eighth note solo lines with a "forced" sense of swing vs. a more relaxed feel which is what you want.
What most beginning jazz pianists don't realize is, it not only has to do with the swing rhythm; a HUGE part of it is the articulation and accenting!
2 Types of 8th Notes: Straight and Swung/Swing
2 Types of Accenting: Downbeats, Offbeats
2 Ways of Playing: Forced vs. Relaxed
You want to accent the offbeats, NOT the Downbeats! Playing Straight Eighth notes with a little swing and accenting the offbeats will give a nice relaxed swing feel!
