In this episode of The Brighter Side of Blue, we sit down with Detective Sally Arbuthnot—a survivor, trailblazer, and inspiration.
Sally was only six years old when her father, Henry Hersman, tried to firebomb her grandparents’ home with her inside. What began as a childhood marked by fear, violence, and chaos has transformed into a life of service and resilience.
Today, Sally is the first female jailer, road deputy, and detective in the history of the Jersey County Sheriff’s Office, as well as a proud member of the Major Case Squad. Her story takes us from the trauma of growing up under Hersman’s shadow to the triumph of breaking barriers and building a respected career in law enforcement.
💥 During this powerful conversation, we were also joined by Jersey County Sheriff Nick Mann, who surprised Sally on the show to share how proud he is of her strength, her career, and the example she sets for others.
This episode is emotional, inspiring, and unforgettable—a story of survival, resilience, and turning pain into purpose.
