A talk on Raga Shankarabharanam by Prince Rama Varma
on Bhakthi TV. Here he gives samples of various kinds of Gamakams and explains the significance of the compositions by the Great Masters like Thyagaraja. Though I have witnessed Varmaji talk about music so many times and though the range, clarity and depth of his mind never fails to amaze me, this is the first time I could get hold of a video of him talk about one Raga in this fashion. Varmaji told me that he felt awkward facing a camera rather than a person and talking like this, but I personally found him extremely relaxed and articulate as usual. I am sure serious lovers of good music will thoroughly benefit from this video as well as the two subsequent parts of the same lecture.
