Felling and Hewing a Tree - a workshop

I participated in a two day hewing workshop. Most of the participants had some connection to trees, woodwork of working with axes, but it was the first time felling a tree and hewing it into "square" beams for most. In this video you can see some of the things we did, starting by felling the tree, removing the ivy growing on it, bucking it in to sections, marking out the beam shape, followed by the hewing proces. I tried out the german broad axe I "restored" for the first time during this two days. (You can see the video of this restoration here: • Broad Axe Hewing Axe Restoration ) It took some getting used to handle these axes and more practice is definitely required, but I'm looking forward to that.
