2024 Toyota Tacoma fuel economy MPG and range on a full tank of fuel

I thought I would settle the ongoing debate over the range of a 4th gen Tacoma. I have a 2024 Tacoma TRD Off Road 2.4 Turbo with 8 spd. automatic (non hybrid). I am sharing what MPG and Range I have been getting on a full tank of fuel (18.2 gallons).

The MID typically displays approx. 300 miles of range on a freshly filled full tank of fuel. I was disappointed with that when I first bought it. Then, I noticed that I could never get more than about 15.5 gallons on a fill up when my MID fuel gage displayed 0 miles / empty. So I tested the theory and drove it for 3 days on empty and the result is the range is approx. 360 miles on a full tank of fuel, which works out to approx. 20MPG combined hwy/cty.

For the record, I now have a little over 6K miles on it and my city MPG is typically 19MPG and Freeway is 21MPG, but highway (55MPH-65MPH) is as much as 25MPG. This is all in normal drive mode, not Eco mode. I have the OEM tires and have not made any modifications to the stock vehicle drivetrain and tires.

For anyone worried about all of the click bait out there about Tacoma recalls, problems and dealerships have a surplus because they are not selling, this is all BS, don't believe it. This is my 5th Tacoma. I have owned 3 first gens, a third gen and now a 4th gen. I have also owned 5 4Runners. The 4th gen Tacoma is by far the most refined, powerful, fun to drive of all of them. I would characterize the way it drives as 'it wants to go faster w/ very little effort.' The transmission is excellent and does not gear hunt or give you any frustration. I have taken it on various extreme off road jeep trails and did not have to engage the rear locking diff and had no trouble whatsoever through deep mud and rocky, steep terrain. The rear coil over springs are a tremendous upgrade compared to leaf springs. The large 14" screen does not impede your visibility at all. I could see that it might if you were a short person. I didn't know what to think about it at first but I have grown to love the big screen. My only complaint is the leg room for the back seat. It appears to be 2"-3" less than the previous generations. I don't sit back there but when an adult does, I have to move my seat up to a position much closer than I like (I am 6' tall). One other gripe is the seats are not electric (w/ exception of lumbar). For $47K, both seats should be 8 way electric (I realize you get them w/ the next upgrade but not worth an additional $3K-$4K.
