atc-sim.com Controlling traffic at London Heathrow, EGLL.
Air traffic control simulator. This example simulating aircraft arriving and departing at London Heathrow. In practice, such a wide area is actually covered by more than one controller/sector, except late at night or very early in the morning when traffic volume is light.
In real life, arriving aircraft from the north, will fly inbound to either Bovingdon VOR, (BNN), or Lambourne (LAM), and will check in with Heathrow director on 119.725 MHz. This controller will vector the traffic into one stream onto the base leg of the landing runway. The same will happen to traffic arriving from the south, with traffic flying inbound to either Biggin or Ockham VOR and checking in with Heathrow Director on 134.975 MHz, who will merge traffic from the south into one stream, and guide them onto an approximate base leg.
Both streams, ie. the north stream and the south stream are then transferred to Heathrow director no. 2 on 120.40 MHz, who then guides the aircraft on the final approach, or the ILS localiser.
However, in the video, one controller i.e. me, gets to control everything on the screen, including giving take off and final landing clearance.....the latter only being done by the controller in the control tower who can actually see the runway in real life.
This simulator is especially of interest to those who are familiar with ATC routes and procedures, and gives you a chance to test your skill. Be warned, it is very addictive! Enjoy....
