So here you are looking at powder-powder blends.

So we've got a resin and carbon micro-balloons.

These give you low-density very high compression strength Syntactic Composites.

They are used in the deep-sea oceanography world a lot.

So here again, we're looking at making a blend and then casting it to shape and then heating it and forming Near-Net-Shape.

It removes any machining steps.

Now, the conventional process would be just V-blending and we've talked a bit about that and we said OK, can we do this with the ResonantAcoustic Mixer (RAM) and how does it compare.

There's quite an interesting phenomenon that we didn't expect here.

On the left, you've got the conventional V-blender and on the right you've got the RAM mixer.

Everything else, composition-wise is identical.

If you look on the left you see a lot of white specks. These are X-Ray CT slices again.

Those specks are granules of the resin.

So the resin contains sulfurs. It is highly attenuating, and the resin hasn't…during the V-blending, the resin hasn't broken down. It's still agglomerated.

In the ResonantAcoustic Mixer (RAM) mixed one, there are far fewer.

So effectively, the RAM here is acting as a milling medium/system as well as a mixing system.

Now, when we normally do V-blending we would pre-sieve it.

Now, if we can optimize these conditions, we can remove an entire step of the process.

We don't need to pre-sieve the resin.

Because effectively, we're sieving or de-caking, if you like, the resin particles as well as mixing at the same time.
