Áine Tyrrell (Australian based Singer, Songwriter) and Auntie Delta Kay (Arakwal Bumberbin, Bundjalung Woman, Mother) joined us for Hedge School during our Imbolc series in 2021.
Irish Singer-Songwriter Áine Tyrrell cradles the spirit of her native homeland slamming foot to floorboards in both celebration and protest. Raised on the rugged limestone rocks of the burren onf the west coast of Ireland with a wandering heart, she spends much of her time on the red dirt roads of so-called Australia that 60,000 plus years of ancient culture has carved. Her songs are a call to arms wrapped in ancient wisdoms for this modern world. Find out more at: https://ainetyrrell.com/home
As a proud Arakwal custodian, Auntie Delta Kay is committed to working in genuine partnership with her local community to promote an awareness, understanding and mutual respect between Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal people. Find out more at: http://www.deltakay.com.au/
About Hedge School
“Back in the 1700s Irish education was outlawed under Penal Laws and the process of learning took to the land. Hedge schools gathered wherever people could find shelter. Situated along hedgerows, in fields, by rivers and under the stars, the non-conformists of the day gathered to gain knowledge. At these edges, the culture was kept alive, the language was preserved and indigenous stories, traditions, customs and wisdom passed from generation to generation. We feel called to evolve the Hedge school tradition to help us find shelter and navigate our shared future in these extraordinary times.”
