Saint George and the Dragon Read Aloud

Miss Jennifer reads aloud "Saint George and the Dragon" by Margaret Hodges, illustrated by Trina Schart Hyman, which is a retelling of Edmund Spenser's "The Faerie Queene."

The story follows a nameless knight sent by the Queene of Faeries to fight a dragon terrorizing the land. Accompanied by Princess Una, the knight, later revealed to be named George, defeats the dragon and ultimately marries Una, becoming known as Saint George after continuing to fight battles for the Queene of Faeries.

This story perfectly accompanies a Fall Michaelmas festival and is suitable for children ages 7 and up.
