How to Make a Wavy Wooden American Flag | Realistic Frameless DIY Flag Build

In this in-depth DIY woodworking tutorial, I will show you how to turn ordinary 2×4 lumber into a stunning handmade American flag with an ultra-realistic wavy design — and no visible frame. Perfect for both beginner and experienced woodworkers, the video walks through every step: selecting straight boards, ripping and gluing them together, then carving smooth 3D waves across the stripes with a grinding disc. We clamp the boards under weight during glue-up to keep them flat. After carving the front, we sand and taper the edges on the back so the flag has a sleek frameless border and appears to float on the wall. Each star in the union is traced and carefully carved with a Dremel for crisp detail, and we torch the deeper curves to accentuate the wood grain. Multiple coats of stain (two coats of deep crimson for the red, plus pure white and denim blue) are applied with frog-tape masking to keep clean stripes, then finished with a satin clear coat for durability and shine. The result is a custom, high-end wall sculpture that looks like an actual flag billowing in the breeze, every stripe and star pops with realistic depth.
