2002 Pacific Typhoon Season Animation V2

The 2002 Pacific Typhoon Season had the highest Acculumated Cyclone Energy (ACE) in the modern satellite era by Force Thirteen analysis, with 400+ units. One significant contributor to that amount was Typhoon Fengshen, the strongest typhoon of the season, which peaked 8 times during its lifespan, and had the highest recorded ACE in the Western Pacific and worldwide, the latter only to be beaten by Hurricane Ioke in 2006, and Cyclone Freddy in 2023.

The most costliest and deadliest storm of the season was Typhoon Rusa, which became the worst typhoon to strike South Korea since Typhoon Sarah in 1959. Typhoons Chataan and Pongsona became the worst storms to affect the Federated States of Micronesia and Guam, respectively.
