A Tribute to Meat Loaf & Jim Steinman (Tanz Der Vampire - Die Unstillbare Gier - English Lyrics)

Meat Loaf passed away on January 20, 2022. He was obviously a music legend, and although I didn't listen to much of his music, I was aware of many of his hits and knew how loved and legendary he was.

Last year, on April 19, 2021, lyricist Jim Steinman, whom collaborated frequently with Meat Loaf-including work on his two 'Bat Out of Hell' albums, passed away.

Now the way I was very aware of Jim Steinman's music is very intertwined with my awareness of some of Meat Loaf's music. Jim Steinman actually composed the music for the German hit musical "Tanz Der Vampire" (Dance of the Vampires). The show is one of my absolute favorites and I've listened to it endlessly through the years. Now the show is almost sort of a 'lite' jukebox musical as several of the songs use melodies and lyrical elements from some of Jim's previous compositions--including some of the pieces he wrote for Meat Loaf. The most notable of these would be the musical's song "Die Unstillbare Gier" (or The Endless Appetite in it's original English translation). This song borrows both melodically and lyrically from Meat Loaf's hit "Objects in the Rear View Mirror May Appear Closer than They Are". It's one of the best moments in the entire show and it's definitely bolstered by the sections that originate from that song.

I figured recording "Die Unstillbare Gier" using the original English lyrics, which were written for the short lived and horribly done Broadway production, would be a fitting way I could pay tribute to both legends, who influenced or helped create a musical that I love very dearly.

So here it is! Enjoy, and for those wondering--yes I still intend to record the original German lyrics someday haha.
And RIP Meat Loaf and Jim Steinman...
