Giuliano and Simonetta are just the kind of ship I fall for: the star-crossed lovers. They do have only few moments together in the show but this love - this couple - is real! Their "love" was probably just platonic, but remains immortal thanks to a famous painting by Sandro Botticelli ("Venus and Mars") that was inspired by them.
Historical spoiler: they both died on the same day (26th of April), but two years apart. Simonetta died most likely from tuberculosis and Giuliano was murdered during the Pazzi conspiracy.
I highly recommend you this tv show - Medici - and, in general, anything related to Italian Renaissance (paintings, sculptures, books and poetries, movies about it), it was one of our most florid periods.
Simonetta Cattaneo/Vespucci was always Botticelli's muse, even when she had already died, and several works of art were inspired by her in the following centuries as well.
