How to Make a "Copper Rod" Sand Battery Air Heater at Home! This Thermal Storage Heating System uses 12v heating elements (along with Copper and Aluminum heatsinks) to heat the sand and then uses "hollow copper rods" to help extract and re-distribute that heat into the living space. works awesome!
Couple of Options:
🟢 Unit can become a Sand-Based "Flowerpot Air Heater" by placing a non-glazed clay flowerpot upside down onto the rods. (shown in the video). the extra thermal mass of the pot will absorb and radiate the heat from the sand, the copper and the steel can. (and no candles needed with this flowerpot heater)!
🟢 I also experimented with covering the copper rods with stainless steel cooking pans and ceramic bowls. both worked great *and both allow for the use of a "heat powered" stove fan on top. (also shown in the video)
🔴 the heating elements used are 12v and are rated 400F/205C but higher or lower rated ones can be used. you could also skip the heating elements and just heat the sand battery "off grid" using things like a parabolic dish cooker or a fresnel lens. once it's heated, the sand stays hot for hours!
⭐👉 Sand based thermal energy storage systems are a new and emerging technology. it should be interesting to see all the developments over the next few years. the video shows just one way that you can use it today! 👍
🎵 both instrumental songs in the vid. are from YouTubes copyright free library. the titles are (ready_set_go) and (feel good rock)
