From Friday 5th August - Sunday 7th August 2025, Didcot Railway Centre held their Autumn Steam Gala event. 1466 was intended to be in service for this event, however technical issues prevented it from being steamed. The gala instead saw 1340 'Trojan' and 4079 'Pendennis Castle' in service alongisde visitors ex GWR 1400 no.1450 and SE&CR O1 no.65. The event saw passenger and freight trains running during the event as well as shunting and turntable demonstrations.
It had been a while since I last visited the site, although we were spoiled for choice for events this weekend. We chose to go to Didcot and attended on the Saturday, being able to see the O1 for a second time and 4079 with 3,5000 gallon tender certainly helped. The weather was fantastic and overall got some great shots during the visit. There were some rather nice line ups to photograph as well. We even saw the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight! Which does feature in this video.
Its a shame 1466 wasn't in service, but we still got to see it at least. But I shall return in the future when 1466 is back up and running. It was a fantastic day out, and if you've not yet visited the centre, why not go and visit.
