1950s Marx "Lumar" Power Shovel Restoration

Today, we have a great custom restoration for you. This is a 1950s Marx "Lumar" Power Shovel, known as model #1782. We picked up this toy up at an antique store a few months ago and it was in terrible condition. Many components were either missing, such as the treads, or just broken, like the gear mechanism.
The "Lumar" Line of Marx Toys debuted in 1931, as train sets. A few years later they started making Lumar trucks, and other related pieces of heavy machinery. Our Power Shovel is an earlier iteration of the toy, that came in the blue/yellow and green/grey colorway. We came to this conclusion, due to the design of the sticker on the rear. In the later years of this model, two ribs were added to the rear of the cabin. The newer rear decal only stated, "Automatic Scoop Power Shovel."
For this restoration, we wanted to do something special for you all. We felt that the original flat blue and light yellow was kind of bland for such a unique and complex toy. We decided to spray it in a dark metallic blue and darker yellow, as it would really make the decals pop. Speaking of decals, all of our decals were made in house. First, they were reconstructed on photoshop, and then they were cut out on our cricut. If you would like to see this process, check out our previous on the 1970s Buddy L "Puppies Kennel" Truck.
