Some days you hike into your favorite Tennessee creek hoping for smallmouth… and the creek hands you a full lineup of rock bass instead. Today was one of those days.

In this episode, I give the fall bite one last shot before switching over to trout fishing. Loads of baitfish, dropping water temps, blown-out holes from the hurricane rains, and a whole lot of stubborn fish made for a technical afternoon wading through tight creek pockets.

I rotate through micro swimbaits, TRD minnows, and my confidence bait — the Z-Man TRD BugZ — trying to coax a smallmouth before dark. The fish had other plans. But catching rock bass all day still beats sitting at home, and the creek always finds a way to remind you why you keep coming back.
