Kim's paintings explore the re-negotiation of cultural identity, particularly from her experience growing up in a conservative Korean background. Since moving to London in 2016, Kim has been exposed to radically new perspectives on beauty, femininity, and social dynamics, which continue to shape her artistic journey. Her ongoing research reflects her broad exploration of women's identities, with a focus on social and political issues facing East Asian women. The subjects in Kim's paintings are mostly women, depicted in a ‘virtual narrative’—imaginary settings that mirror real-world crises or personal dilemmas.
