In this video, you’ll hear a comparison between a Vintage Neumann u67 and the Advanced Audio CM47LE Tube Condenser Microphone.
Advanced Audio microphones are the ultimate balance in quality sound, price, and useful features for any size studio. The familiar look, and solid construction gives professional musicians and engineers the confidence that they are getting the best possible sound.
Here is the Vintage Neumann U67 Tube Condenser Microphone, If you’ve been around the channel awhile, you’ll know I’m excited because I’ve been in the very room this mic was made in, and met the 4 women that assemble these microphones.
The u67 is Known for its legendary midrange presence. Which has made it the preferred workhorse microphone since it used on the Beatles, The Bee Gees and for the famous Glyn Johns Drum Micing Technique. It’s a definite desert island piece of gear.
That is, If you got 15 thousand $ to throw around. Vintage Microphones this old are not easy to come by. I’d love to compare the CM47 to the original U47 but Paul’s is broken.
Paul Johnston, our instructor, was kind enough to let us use his u67, Thanks Paul. I’m sure Dave Thomas will have no problem fixing your vintage U47!
But this poses is a real problem. As these classic microphones age they are at a greater risk of crackling and increased noise during recording. Recording Engineers can’t keep the artist waiting and the label paying while they swap out Mics. Especially if it’s a large orchestra or ensemble. It can really add up.
The CM47 provides the u47 sound in a rugged and reliable construction without spending over 10 thousand AND still needing to get it refurbished.
The CM47 features 2 modes M or Multi which allows the user to toggle from the 9 selectable polar patterns on the power supply C or Passive Cardioid mode which disengages the rear diaphragm to create a cardioid polar pattern.
In this first clip you’ll hear these microphones side by side on female vocals with the CM47 in Passive Cardioid Mode.
