Two weeks ago, I attended several great daily standups with a new team that I’m coaching. But yesterday, their Scrum Master closed the sprint without facilitating a sprint review or retrospective. That sent up a red flag for me, since it’s the job of the Scrum Master to facilitate ALL the scrum events vs. just one or two. So I pinged Jaya, the new Scrum Master and asked, “Hey, good job leading the standups, but what happened to the review and retro? I didn’t see them on my calendar.” Jaya said, “Oh! I’m new to this and I thought I was just running the daily standup! What should I do differently!” So we talked about how her job is to actually facilitate ALL the scrum events: sprint planning, the standup, review, retro and sprint!

Hot tip: create recurring meetings on the calendar to make it easier on everyone. Same time, same place, same format. Out of sight, out of mind. By the end of this sprint, you’ll have a clear understanding of all the scrum events and your role in leading them. Enjoy!
