HM DCC altering sounds and lights plus easy reset

HM DCC is the free app from Hornby to enable easy editing and control via Bluetooth of HM 7000 decoders. The app is available for both iOS and Android and needs a a reasonable new phone/tablet (but not the latest thing) The HM 7000 decoders are full DCC decoders so will work with any DCC system, I use a Bachman Dynamis Ultra (the rebadged ESU Navigator) for day to day control with no issues other than the Dynamis showing it’s age a bit now, it’s limited on functions (20) and the IR system is a bit old hat and has its downsides. Amazingly it’s still a load better than much more allegedly modern and sophisticated systems!

Back to HM DCC, it’s easy to use and very powerful. I especially like the ease of fine tuning like the auto calibration feature I showed in the last video. This video is all about how to alter sound levels on any sound the profile features, how to select the sounds you want and remove those you don’t.
Remember, unless you have specifically made accommodation for increasing the volumes beyond 50, don’t. The extra heat generated by the amplifier on the decoder board and the speakers needs managing and failing to do this can lead to damage to your model and/or decoder. This is why the profile limits are set at 50min the highest settings but usually lower, on this 66 they are set to 35.
I set all my sound fitted locos to 25 or equivalent on other sound decoders just so the noise isn’t overwhelming. I like to enhance the sound of key functions and this video shows you how to do this.
I also delve into how to change lighting effects and brightness controls. In the past lighting needed soldering resistors in to set the brightness, it’s now possible to set it via the HM DCC app.
The HM DCC system is a real game changer and so easy to play with too. It gives you prompts for most settings, the manual is a wealth of DCC information and crucially, to get back to where you started is a breeze.
