In 1996, Francis played the vicious Ugly Kwan with smoky voice in YOUNG AND DANGEROUS, which earned him the fame as the villain.

In 2000, he won his first Golden Horse Awards for Best Actor with the performance in THE MISSION, beating the very strong competitor Tony Leung for IN THE MOOD FOR LOVE. Francis was since then recognized as the perfect candidate for villain.

Frank and straightforward, Francis also acknowledged that his initial motive to act is not passion but the pursuit of fame. With his outstanding performance, obviously he deserves all the applause.
