Baringo women Entrepreneurs trained on digital marketing skills

As the national government promote the utilization of fibre optic by providing high speed internet, Kenyans have been encouraged to take advantage of the huge investment to improve their livelihoods through digitalizing businesses and other economic ventures.
The government through Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) seeks to empower citizens and businesses, foster inclusive growth, and drive digital innovations by availing affordable widespread high-speed internet and digital services. This will foster digital skills and adoption of emerging technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) particularly among the youth.
According to Baringo county Governor H.E Benjamin Cheboi, EGH, EBS, his dream is to ensure that citizens especially those with entrepreneurship skills and self-employed create wealth through simple but attractive innovative ventures that utilize the available digital resources across the county.
So far, as reported by the department of Devolution, Public Service Administration, ICT and eGovernment, more than 11,000 beneficiaries have been trained on digital skills at the Baringo World Best Friend ICT Centre in Kabarnet since its inception in 2014. The Centre also offers advanced courses on Ajira digital program and graphic design.
Beginning this week, the centre is conducted a Digital Marketing Skills Training for women engaged in small-scale business and grass root enterprises from various informal sectors across the County. It is designed to equip them with practical digital tools to enable them market their products and services online thus increase visibility, and grow their businesses in today’s digital world.
When he officially opened the week long training at the Centre, Baringo County Chief Officer for Public Service Administration, ICT & E-Government Mr. Charles Kipkulei assured them of county government’s continued support since the focus is now on empowering the youth, Women and persons living with disabilities.
The impactful initiative is Governor H.E Cheboi’s brainchild and has continued to attract support from various stakeholder among them Ministry of ICT and the Digital Economy and World Best Friend, a South Korean NGO who have promised to elevate the Centre into an innovation Hub.
Kipkulei thanked the Ajira Digital Program team for their continued support saying that such noble initiatives help to bridge the digital divide and open new opportunities not only for women entrepreneurs and expose the youth to online jobs.
