Black History: Frederick McKinley Jones - Forgotten Innovator

Frederick McKinley Jones, born in 1893, revolutionized long-haul transportation with his invention of the automatic truck refrigeration system in 1938. This breakthrough allowed perishable goods, including food and medical supplies, to be transported over long distances, significantly impacting the food and medical industries.

Jones also designed an air conditioning unit for military field hospitals during WWII, enhancing medical care for soldiers, and developed a movie projector for sound films, advancing the entertainment industry.

Holding over 60 patents, Jones became the first African American to receive the National Medal of Technology posthumously in 1991. His legacy as a trailblazing inventor remains influential, despite facing significant racial barriers throughout his career.
