This video is part of the Aalto University course, CHEM-E2127 Applied Mechanics of Wood Materials. It is an online course organized for the first time in spring 2025. The lecturer in this series is Prof. Dan Ridley-Ellis. He is head of the Centre Wood Science and Technology at Edinburgh Napier University. He is one of the UK’s technical experts on guessing the strength of wood and his main area of research is understanding the properties of wood, and how they are influenced by tree growth, forest management, and climate. The lecturer in this series is Prof. Dr. Callum Hill. He has been a senior lecturer in wood science at Bangor University and a Professor of Materials Science at the Centre for Timber Engineering, Edinburgh. He is now a Senior Visiting Research Fellow at the University of Bath and a Visiting Researcher at the Norwegian Institute of Bioeconomy Research and has his own consultancy that deals with life cycle assessment, carbon footprinting and sustainability assessments.

Applied mechanics of wood materials video series is filmed in Aalto University in 2024 starring various expert scientists and Professors. Dr. Steven Collins is the producer and editor.
