Biomarkers for Bipolar Disorder? | Recent Developments and More

In October of 2023, some scientists at Cambridge University published a paper titled, “Metabolomic biomarker signatures for bipolar and unipolar depression”. This video is about that paper. Biomarker discovery is a fascinating field, and when it comes to mental health, biomarkers seem like a really good idea! I mean biomarkers are an objective way to find out if someone has a disease or a condition and that would be super useful in mental health!

So join me, your schizoaffective guide, as we embark on a tale of data, metabolites, mass spectrometry, and a few other sciencey things that I’m way too excited to talk about.

The most valuable thing I learned in college was how to read a scientific paper. And one of the most valuable things I’ve learned in life is how to make complicated stuff easy to understand. I seek to bridge the gap between the academic world and the every day person because there’s a lot of good info out there (mainly on pubmed lol). It’s just often so complicated and hard to access that the average person can’t… get to it.

So that’s where I come in!
