Tuckerman’s Ravine with the Kids

Since some people are giving me crap for this, yes, my younger one just turned 9 and older one is 11. We were not planning on skiing the ravine, but when we got there, I saw that conditions were safe to do the climb and descent. Avi danger was low, snow was very soft with no ice for slipping on the climb. There was a little bit of wind, but the video makes it seem worse than it actually was. We did not top out on left gully because I saw that it was getting a bit icy. My kids also know how to self arrest and we have practiced it. I’m also very confident and aware of their abilities. This was risk assessed by both Christina and I, and we are both very familiar with Tucks and have done it many times in varying conditions. Even more so, both boys are aware of the danger and this was not their first time in the backcountry.
