Macau is a city and special administrative region of China in the western Pearl River Delta by the South China Sea. Formerly a Portuguese colony, the territory of Portuguese
Macau was first leased to Portugal as a trading post by the Ming dynasty in 1557. The mixing of Chinese and Portuguese culture and religious traditions for more than four centuries has left Macau with an inimitable collection of holidays, festivals and events. The biggest event of the year is the Macau Grand Prix each November, when the main streets of the Macau Peninsula are converted to a racetrack bearing similarities with the Monaco Grand Prix.
