At first, I really wanted to sub an older live (from 2004) where Kyo's vocals are much cleaner and easier to hear (and subtitle), but… I decided to go the extra mile, because I absolutely adore the whole atmosphere in this particular live (from 2007). With the crowd singing along at the top of their lungs and Kyo interacting with them. It was just too good not to do this one instead and I have no regrets. In fact, the great dynamics of this live made me include the next song even, which is the almost entirely sung in English Clever Sleazoid, which, I guess, I wouldn't have subtitled otherwise. These two songs really do compliment each other. And they obviously belonged together in one video.
Recorded during the "TOUR07 THE MARROW OF A BONE (ADDITIONAL) (07.12.22 Zepp Tokyo)"; released on the 『IN WEAL OR WOE』 DVD.
A huge "Thank you!" goes out again to the awesome show-me-your-lewd-self@tumblr, who was so kind to help me get a good looking video file of this live!
Notes for The IIID Empire:
1) 0:36 - "undulating" - imagine a huge crowd of people, heaving up and down like waves in the ocean.
2) 0:40 & 1:02 - Kyo is singing of "oblates" here. Now, the word itself comes from the Latin "oblatus", meaning "someone who has been offered something". In English you would usually refer to a person, who is especially devoted to (the Christian) God, as an oblate.
However, the Japanese word "オブラート - oburâto" comes from the German word "Oblate" which describes a very thin, round piece of flatbread (also known as "wafer" in English) which is being used to wrap up baking goods or medicine in them. You can put some bitter medicine in an oblate to make it less awful to swallow.
You can wrap up a bomb in "but this will bring us peace and freedom" and people will take it in.
3) 1:02 - T.I. could stand for a lot of things. One that I found logical is it referring to the chemical element Titanium (Ti). It is corrosion resistant and therefore suited for long-term storage of nuclear waste.
4) A few lines are missing in this live version. Originally they're being sung during the part from 1:43 to 2:03 , where Kyo repeats "Jump!" over and over.
Those lyrics are:
"SPARK SUBLIMINAL VISION.
L and P, love and peace, extinguished.
A city of explosions, called by the name of "Freedom"."
Notes for Clever Sleazoid:
1) "Sleazoid" refers to a sleazy, shabby, gross and obscene person, who leads a lifestyle others find highly disgusting and disapprove of.
