Ever wondered what it’s like to visit a remote Scottish island in the dead of winter? Yeah, us neither — until we actually did it. Join us, two slightly underprepared but overly enthusiastic friends, as we venture to the Isle of Barra in February 2025 for a trip filled with questionable weather, unexpected beauty, and at least three near-blown-away-by-the-wind experiences.

Expect dramatic coastlines, hauntingly quiet beaches, a beach airport (yes, planes literally land on sand), and a lot of “Why are we doing this?” moments sprinkled with awe. We explored Castlebay, chased sheep (respectfully), tried not to get stuck in a bog, and attempted to make winter in the Outer Hebrides look fun... somehow we pulled it off.
