Mount Vesuvius is a somma-stratovolcano in the Gulf of Naples in Campania, Italy, about 9 kilometers east of Naples and close to the shore. It is one of several volcanoes that comprise the Campanian volcanic arc.
The nature path n.5 "Il Gran Cono" begins at Piazzale di Quota 1000, a parking lot 1,000 metres above sea level in the municipality of Herculaneum.
