The Orisa worship and the Spiritual Baptist faith are two religions which were subjected to repressive colonial legislation in Grenada. Because of their African origin, they were viewed as threatening to the colonial state. Although no longer enforced, the laws remain, and both groups are largely unrecognised by government, stifling their civic, political, and cultural participation. This video aims to increase public awareness of their histories and traditions. It presents the fascinating history of indentured Africans--some of whom carried Orisa practices across the Atlantic--and examines their ethnic origins. It delves into the varied practices of the Spiritual Baptist Faith and Orisa worship, with profiles of practitioners.
