Caitriona Balfe Interview | The Cut, Orlando Bloom, Outlander, and Sense and Sensibility

From director Sean Ellis and writer Justin Bull, the psychological thriller The Cut follows a retired former champion boxer, known only as Boxer (Orlando Bloom), chasing a desire to return to the ring that’s so strong that he’s willing to do whatever it takes. A need to lose 30 pounds in a week seems like an impossibility, which leads him to turn to an unscrupulous trainer (John Turturro) that can get him there, at high cost to his mental health and with much strain on his relationship with Caitlin (Caitriona Balfe). Even if he accomplishes his goal, he’ll have to face the consequences of ripping everything else in his life apart in the process.

During this interview with Collider, Balfe discussed her visceral emotional reaction the first time she read the script for The Cut, why she loves sports films, that boxing is one of her favorite workouts, sparring in the ring with Bloom, the heartbreak Caitlin experiences when Boxer pushes their relationship to the limit, and how she feels about where things are left with the two of them. She also talked about how Outlander will always be a part of her life, even though they’ve officially wrapped on the final season of the series, and what attracted her to the latest adaptation of Sense and Sensibility.
