'I Left My Baby', sung by Jimmy Rushing, with Count Basie & His Orchestra, from 'The Sound Of Jazz', a program in the 'Seven Lively Arts' series on CBS-TV. The program was televised live from CBS-TV Studio 58 in Manhattan, Sunday, 8 December 1957, 5:00 to 6:00 PM Eastern Standard Time. The program, and series, host was New York Herald-Tribune columnist John Crosby.
This is an 'amateur' off-the-air audio recording of the telecast; the tape is part of my personal collection. It is not from a commercial source, and the content is not for commercial use. Technical details are given in the Description accompanying my Count Basie [2of 2] upload.
The photograph shows Basie, seated left, and Rushing, standing center, with Bennie Moten, seated right, in 1931. 'The Kid from Red Bank' and 'Mr. 5-by-5' achieved their first real recognition as members of Bennie Moten's Kansas City Orchestra, the band that Basie led to worldwide fame after Moten died. But Moten's initial Victor recording, 1926, both sides of which I uploaded, amply demonstrates how good the band was with Moten playing piano and directing.
