The President of the United States is threatening some of his country’s oldest allies.

They've been some of America’s most reliable trading partners. They've shared intelligence, they bought American films, foods, cars and ... crucially ... weapons.

These countries answered the call to fight after the horrific attacks of September 11th; their soldiers fought and died in Korea, Iraq and Afghanistan.

It’s not been purely transactional either – they held a shared belief in democracy, in freedom – in the fact that laws matter and true success can only be achieved in partnership with others.

Together – under U.S. leadership – they built the largest and longest lasting military alliance the world has ever seen.

All of that may be at risk – partnership, profit, and peace – all at risk.
