Halau Ho'ola Ka Mana O Hawai'i opens a new century at the Merrie Monarch Hula Festival - 2000 Hula Auana. Halau Ho'ola Ka Mana O Hawai'i is from Dallas, Houston, San Antonio Texas and Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. They're dancing "Wahine U'i" composed by James Kahale. Earlier that day a tragic accident happened on the beach at Kehena, Hawai'i. A supporter husband of Pixie Allison drowned in the sea earlier that morning before the performance leaving Pixie unavailable to perform with her hula sisters. In honor of Pixie and her family, a space in the back line remained opened where she would have danced had she performed. Halau Ho'ola Ka Mana O Hawai'i is under the direction of Kumu Hula, Frank Keli'i Chang. His Halau to date, is the only Halau invited to participate at Merrie Monarch east of the Rocky Mountains. He is accompanied by his mother Moana Chang, father Frank Chang and brother Randy Kaulana Chang. Choreograph by: Kumu Hula Frank Keli'i Chang "Even though we might not be together any longer, I will always love my girls!!!" Texas opens up a new era at Merrie Monarch 2000 - the FIRST Halau to perform hula 'auana!
