The frame is “NOS”, New Old Stock. The motor is believed to have been salvaged from a crashed ACE of 1928, stored at Scheitinger’s of Bridgeport, Connecticut. The motor is virtually brand new, as verified by restorer Bruce Linsday, noting the “Ace” imprint in the crankcase. Ace models were the first 500 units made after Indian purchased the Ace brand, using many “101” Scout components. Sometime in the late 1930s, the dealer overstamped the numbers to update the year, then offered it for sale.
Jerry Doering began re-assembling this piece in 1976, after purchasing the “NOS” frame at the Thompson’s Speedway AMCA Swap Meet that same year. Bruce noticed the project underway in Jerry’s office during a visit to TeddCycle in the late 1970s. Fast forward to 2020, when Bruce took over the project, over 40 years after it began! After June of 2021, the completed project was added to the display at Motorcyclepedia, delivered by Bruce in running condition.
