Such an important topic, it's honestly very odd I haven't addressed it yet. But it's obviously a very prominent point of discussion across all seasons of Bojack Horseman. And, as many others, I feel that this show does an incredible job of depicting the realism of mental illness, rehabilitation, and addiction.
Not only is there many healthy examples of how to deal with said issues, but there's also a large amount of behavior that could serve as a warning, helping the audience recognize the common signs and symptoms of this type of behavior.
There's a really strict reason why this show is consistently referenced in the topic of mental illness. It has the most realistic and visceral depiction in almost every piece of media that we know today. "Bojack Horseman" essentially saved my life, and that isn't a unique experience, either. It is likely one of the most important shows of our time because of this in-depth portrayal of the journey of those with mental illness.
