𝗧𝗘𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗡 is the Hebrew word for Yemen.
This new project by Yamma brings to the spotlight the ancient tradition of the Jewish community that lived in Yemen for two thousand years. New members who specialize in Yemenite music has joined Yamma and together have recorded TEIMAN, an album dedicated to music world of Yemenite women.

𝗕𝗶𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗹 𝗮𝗿𝘂𝘀𝗮 - a bride daughter - a wedding song from the repertoire of wedding ceremony songs.
Without understanding its background one can wonder who sings at a wedding ceremony such words?? "𝘴𝘵𝘢𝘺 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦, 𝘴𝘪𝘯𝘨𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘴𝘴 𝘪𝘴 𝘴𝘸𝘦𝘦𝘵, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘢𝘴 𝘧𝘰𝘳 𝘮𝘢𝘳𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘨𝘦 - 𝘥𝘢𝘪𝘭𝘺 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘭𝘭𝘦𝘯𝘨𝘦𝘴 ..." ..

This powerful and tribal song provides a glimpse to the status of women (Jewish and non-Jewish) in patriarchal Muslim Yemen.

The Jewish wedding in Yemen was a huge event and perhaps the most significant in a person's life
in the community. It lasted for two weeks and included various ceremonies, feasts and processions.

Zaffa was the main longest procession that accompanied the bride from her father's house to her new home, her husband's family house. Her sisters, aunts, mother, friends, family members, the entire females community accompanied the bride in a procession of songs and drums playing

The bride was actually handed over to the groom's family. she had to leave her family, her home, sometimes to a distant place without knowing when and if she will even return to her parents' home. In Yemen, young little girls (at the ages of 9 - 13) were forced to marry.
There are many songs that relate to this moment.
Songs in which the bride claims: "Mom and Dad, how could you sell me?"
Songs of pain and crying about what goes on inside the mind and soul of a girl who is forced to marry and leave her family, move to another place of residence with strangers.

This song is exotic and beautiful, however the text brings out the women's protest and reveals the behind the scenes of the wedding.

The Jews of Yemen have preserved a well-defined singing arrangement which includes the very poetic creation itself and also involves a vocal and dance performance, accompanied by drumming on an empty tin-can (tankah) or a copper plate.

The Jews of Yemen are one of the most isolated and forgotten communities of the Jewish people. This vibrant Jewish community lived in Yemen until the mid-20th century, when almost all the inhabitants emigrated from Yemen and settled in Israel. Yemeni Jewish traditions claim that the Jewish settlement goes back to biblical times.
