This video tutorial demonstrate step by step procedure about to simulate Cavitation flow through orifice or nozzle with the help of commercial CFD software ANSYS-Fluent. In this tutorial I had show you the use of mixture-multiphase model and the capability to capture vapor fraction during cavitation phenomena.
When local pressure falls below vapor pressure liquid can not retain its liquid phase and its start to convert in to vapor phase known as cavitation. When fluid passed through small orifice it act as a nozzle and locally pressure drop at the inlet corner of the orifice. If pressure falls below vapor pressure cavitation bubble will start to create.
Cavitation flow involved multi-phase which required specific model to simulate. In Ansys-Fluent VOF, mixture is one of the suitable model to simulate cavitation flow. In present tutorial mixture model has been used and cavitation intensity has been calculated by S-S cavitation model in Fluent. Finally cavitation bubble has observed in vapor fraction contour.
