Hi, everyone, Jesse here with etrailer. Today, we'll be taking a look at and I'll show you how to install the Roadmaster Smart Diode Kit on our 2025 Jeep Gladiator. The kit will come with everything you need to run your wiring from your 6-pole back to your taillights, and then install the diodes. Those diodes themselves are there to protect your wiring from any back feeds or anything else that can damage them, and they're tucked inside of our taillights out of view. This diode kit will help you stay safe and legal out there on the road while you're flat towing by sending a signal from your motorhome to the taillights on your towed vehicle to get those lights to function properly, so that means your taillights, your turn signals, and your brake lights. The physical diodes themselves are tucked inside of our taillight here, and those are there to prevent any back feeds or anything else that can damage your wire.
This kit does not come with the 6-pole socket itself, so this would be a good kit for you if you're like our neighbor today and you're transferring a bunch of parts over from your last vehicle that you we inchesre flat towing. But of course, you always wanna replace the wiring, which the kit does come with. We do sell complete kits with everything you'll need to get this installed for your first time flat towers. And speaking of all the parts that you need to get installed, diodes are just one of the many components that you'll need to get your vehicle completely set up for flat towing. You also need a base plate to mount everything to, then a tow bar to be the physical link between towed vehicle and motorhome, and your braking system and your safety cables to make sure that your safe out there.
There are a few other things that we like to recommend, just depending on your setup. For example, we installed a battery charge line kit on our neighbor's Gladiator, just to ensure that when they arrive to their campsite, they don't have to worry about a dead battery in their towed vehicle, and they can get straight to relaxing. Also, our neighbor opted for the Blue Ox Patriot, which is a portable braking system. And you'll need a way to power that, so we added on a 12 volt outlet kit to plug that in and get it going. So when it comes to flat tows, I know it can be a lot, but if you have any questions or concerns, feel free to reach out to us.
We install flat tow components almost every day, so we've kinda got it down by this point. We'd be happy to get you pointed in the right direction. When it comes to the installation, it does involve running wires from the front of your vehicle to the back, and then tapping into your factory taillight wiring, so I'd understand if that's not something that you're looking to do yourself. Check out our dealer locator, you can find someone local to you that would be happy to get this set up for you. If you are looking to see how this gets installed, then just follow along, and I'll walk you through the process.
To begin our installation, what you'll wanna do is find a mounting location. Our Roadmaster base plate came with this 6-pole mounting bracket, so I just simply drilled a hole to fit our wires through our skid plate here. And I fed these down using this piece of air line tubing, so really, everything's tucked back behind, you wouldn't be able to see it. But comes out our engine bay here. I did take this 10 millimeter bolt off of our intake, just to lift it up and tuck our wires underneath it. And then, once we got our wires here, what I did was cut into our white wire, kinda peeled it back a bit. So what I'll do is ground off, just using a factory ground right here. I'll just strip back our white wire, attach a ring terminal to it, and then, we will mount it onto that grounding post. So we'll just take our ring terminal, crimp that onto the stripped white wire. Like I said, I'll take a 10 millimeter socket, get this nut taken off. (wrench ratcheting) And then, we'll just slip our ring terminal underneath that. And they do paint these, s
