Before we dive into details, let's explore its history. Lingambudhi Lake was established in the year 1828 during the rule of Krishnaraja Wodeyar 3, ruler of the erstwhile State of Mysore. This 240 acre lake was originally built for irrigation purposes and also created to meet the recreational needs of the royal family. Over the years, it has transformed into the serene paradise we see today and is managed by the Forest Department.

Its calm, clear waters are fringed by lush greenery, creating a scene that's straight out of a postcard. As you explore the lake's surroundings, you'll be treated to the sights and sounds of numerous avian residents. This place host more than 304 species of birds. Its tranquil shores and surrounding trees attract a variety of bird species, making it an ideal spot for birdwatching and wildlife photography. A watch tower is available which provides uninterrupted view for nature lovers and birdwatchers.

This place also host more than 100 species of butterflies. It's a truly magical experience for anyone who appreciates nature's winged wonders.
The area around Lingambudhi Lake is well-maintained, and there are walking paths and benches where visitors can take a leisurely stroll or enjoy a picnic. It's a great spot for families and friends to spend quality time together.

During early morning and evenings, the atmosphere at Lingambudhi Lake becomes even more magical. The lake reflects the warm hues of the sun, creating a stunning visual spectacle.

Just a kilometre from Lingambudhi Lake is the Sri Mahalingeshwara Temple. This temple was built during same period as Lingambudhi Lake.
