I picked this old Yamaha Pacifica up a while ago for a DIY project but never got around to fixing it. It's been shoved in a corner of my shed, neglected until now. The first thing that stood out to me was the flame maple neck which is not something you would typically find on a budget guitar, it was pretty barebones as it has had most of the components stripped from it earlier on in its life. Turns out the neck and body are from two different models
Refinished with Tru oil (4 coats for both neck and body), first coat wiped on heavy, next 2 coats buffed in with 000 steel wool and final coat with 0000 steel wool before leaving to cure, polishing with T-Cut and finally buffing with a carnauba beeswax blend.
Pickups were rewound with 42AWG and alnico V magnets, neck and middle to 5.4k and bridge to 8k. The bridge also has alnico V poles which isn't typical for a humbucker, it still functions properly and cancels hum - it sounds very punchy and bright even with a 250k volume pot, and splits very well.
Generic Korean locking tuners, bone nut, and a second hand wilkinson vintage vibrato bridge were added, in the end it turned out great
thanks for watching!
