This talk was given at a local TEDx event, produced independently of the TED Conferences. Listen to James McGaugh talk about how memories are produced and how we can make memories last.

James L. McGaugh is Research Professor of Neurobiology and Behavior at UC Irvine. He is recognized internationally for his pioneering investigations of the neurobiological systems that regulate the formation of lasting memories. He is a member of the U.S. National Academy of Sciences as well as the Brazilian and Mexican academies of science and is a Fellow of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He received the William James Award from Association for Psychological Science, the Karl Lashley award from the American Philosophical Society, the John P. McGovern Award from the American Association for the Advancement of Science, the Distinguished Science Award from the American Psychological Association and the Laurea Honoris Causa from the University of L’Aquila in Italy. At UCI he received the Distinguished Faculty Award for Research, the Extraordinarius Award and the UCI Medal. The biological sciences building McGaugh Hall is named in his honor.
