Origin of Whirling Dervishes | KONYA, TURKEY

Rumi, the famous 13th century Sufi, mystic, poet and philosopher lived in Konya and it's where his tomb rests til this day in the Mevlana Museum. The whirling dervishes also known as Mevlevi originated in Konya because of Rumi so we travelled all the way to Konya to watch their mesmerizing performance at the cultural center.

Another thing that originates from Konya is etli ekmek. A must-try in Konya since it's the local specialty. On our way to the Kyoto Japanese Park we stopped off at Şelale Etli Ekmek. Friendly team and tasty food, located conveniently right next to the tram stop too.

It was a surprise to know there's a Kyoto Japanese Park in Konya but it's a lovely and serene garden to visit. There's also a restaurant there too that provides excellent views of the park.

On the way over to Aziziye Mosque we passed by a Turkish ice cream shop. It seemed like a popular ice cream stand as there were plenty of locals lining up too.

Aziziye Mosque is an Ottoman mosque in Konya. It's well-known for its unique Ottoman and baroque architecture with columned balconies on its minarets — an architectural feature rarely seen in Turkish mosques.

Alaaddin Hill Park is another great spot to enjoy some peace and greenery. It's a large park containing the historic Alaeddin mosque, some remains of a citadel and other historic buildings.
