In this final installment of my R2D2 Shadow+MD Electronics build, I put the finishing touches on my electrical system including mounting my main power switch using a custom-designed cradle and implementing a return path for the current generated by the motors whenever R2 is pushed while he is powered down.
Dealing with regeneration current is something that must be done on all droid builds, and there are several approaches one can take to ensure that the delicate motor controllers are not damaged by backflow power. Switches, relays, or return power lines are all valid options, and although I chose return power lines for my build, that is purely a matter of personal preference. The important thing is that you do not overlook this critical feature in your electronics system.
